My Notes on Every Rose N to Z or rosen2z, last edited Thursday, April 05, 2007 10:48 AM.

This is a list of roses I've seen a picture of in a book (together with Title, author and page number).

During Winter (when we have less work to do in our nursery) I look up in books that should be available to you from your local library; each entry, then in parenthesis, following the name, show the book title, author and page number on which a photo of that rose may be found. I also take notes that might persuade you or me, one way or the other; to purchase or pass it by (zone, disease resistance, comments on growth habit or vigor). Roses we grow in our nursery have links to pictures we have taken.

My suggestion is plant in good quality soil, good pH, water regularly and dont spray at all. In my garden the first couple leaves low down will show some black spot and yellowing. Later the glossy green leaves will show a few pin pricks of black and no yellowing. My New Dawn is planted on a chain link fence and is covered over with foliage from junk maples and weeds. Still the leaves are disease free. It has had the tendency to die back to within a foot of the ground the last 2 years but I believe that to be caused by the last two bad winters. fff, shade tolerant, continuous blooming. ( catalog )

It still is filled with all sorts of good information. One thing to remember is that she gardens in Texas (a milder climate than the Northeast).

Certainly one of the most comprehensive works dedicated to the Rose. I'm done. Every rose picture is in this list. (out of 432 pages).

At the time this book was published the author was chief horticulturist at the Morris Arboretum and in charge of the Arboretum Rose garden.
