My Growing Page is a collection of pictures from the free picture-newsletter showing us working in the fields growing the many varieties of ornamental plants that we sell. I have written about what we are doing in each picture, but as I remove pictures and add new ones continually it can get somewhat out of order. So I cut and paste the most important stuff at the top.

My Classic Lilacs page includes pictures of each crop of lilacs we are growing and close up pictures of the flower when they bloom. I take pictures for each of my free monthly picture-newsletters, saving the best pictures into each catalog.

My Disease Resistant Roses page including is a list of all the roses we try to propagate with indications showing how many cuttings we took and how many cuttings rooted. Pictures and links to pictures that were taken in my free monthly picture-newsletter.

INVENTORY & LEVEL OF GROWTH

flowers.yonatan.us/current.htm

This years Rose Order at flowers.yonatan.us/roseorde.htm

We sell Lilacs and Roses that are in bloom or have previously bloomed (proving to me at least that its the right color).

Besides, smart people buy plants in bloom.

And we are growing many varieties that will bloom in a few more years. Every year I add hundreds of Purple and/or French lilacs in many different varieties.

A French Lilac is any double flowered variety of Syringa vulgaris. A French Hybrid on the other hand can be any variety that is descended from a French Lilac, was introduced in France or has a French name. I'd rather have the French Lilac with double flowers.

So the best time to buy lilacs is in May

and the best time to buy roses is in June (or you can trust my labels and come when they aren't in bloom).

We sell Hibiscus syriacus 'Colly Mullen' by appointment in July or the beginning of August when they are in bloom.

If you aren't sure when to come follow the newsletter.

I am disabled in my hands and cant write legibly. So I am designing the inventory process to be easy for someone with disabilities similar to mine.

OUR MICRO NURSERY AT 40 VOORHEESVILLE AVE, VOORHEESVILLE, NY 12186

Albany County is within Zone 5 but surrounded by Zone 4. We grow our plants outdoors without fungicide in several locations around Voorheesville, then bring them to 40 Voorheesville Ave after they start blooming. Plants that aren't tolerant of local conditions die within the several years that we grow them before they become available for sale. Much of my year has to be spent propagating plants so I am available to sell plants only from May 15 to July 4; 10 AM to 2 PM or by appointment. To make an appointment leave a message on the answering machine at (518) 765-2574 or Email me. You can also call me on my cell phone at 518-526-9101. Be sure to leave your phone number so I can call you back. My cell phone number is posted on signs among our plants so that when you need me you can call me from wherever I have wandered off to (Is he in the greenhouse? Maybe having coffee at Stewarts next door? Perhaps he is having lunch across the street at the Voorheesville Diner?). I appreciate you coming during daylight hours when its not raining and giving me a call on my cell phone at 518-526-9101 before you arrive so I have maximum time to show up.

SMART PEOPLE BUY PLANTS IN BLOOM

So watch the Pictures in my Newsletter to know when the plant you want is in bloom and then come and buy it. As plants are sold I remove the yellow inventory label, staple the orange price label to it and stick it in my pocket. By adding up the prices on the red label I can figure out how much I made and how much sales tax I owe.

Propagation pictures

Below this line is for me.

We are growers of hard to find plants that we sell retail at reasonable prices. I show pictures of the plants growing in the field, over wintering in pot-in-pot storage or grouped together at the plant sale so you have an idea of how large they are, how many I have, and when I will be having them at the plant sale. When plants start to flower I show pictures of the plants flowering that are large enough so you can save it as wallpaper or examine more closely.

We dont usually sell plants until they begin to flower. So customers have to know when plants are in bloom.

They subscribe to the newsletter and when plants start blooming I post pictures of the flowers, add comments and send a link to the page. A couple weeks later I add a link from my index page. So those who subscribe get earlier information. Later in the year I include pictures of fruit and fall foliage. Description of what we do and when we do it!

groupof info lilacbuy rosebuy scanner Contact me!

In November we are storing plants pot in pot for the winter (socket pots buried in mulch under trees have potted plants inserted). The root hardiness of all plants is 40 degrees less hardy than their stem hardiness. So we have beds where we store mature plants for the winter with their pots (and roots) surrounded by mulch. Plants that are more hardy (like lilacs and blueberry bushes) are lined up with the sides of their pots touching. Leaves will be raked into a path between rows of plants. Next spring the paths will be top dressed with bark mulch to keep leaves from blowing around, provide a neat surface to walk on and to help hasten decomposition.

People track what I am doing, how plants are growing and what's new by checking the pictures in my free picture-newsletter. I add new pictures of many of the crops of plants we are growing, closeups of flowers, fruit, fall foliage on plants for sale, and pictures of our Nursery Operation, to the most recent picture-newsletter practically every week.
